Plans are currently underway to make our 7th Annual Fired Up community celebration the best and most entertaining ever. Our first event will be the Wheels On Fire 100-Mile Bike Race which kicks off at 7:30 on Saturday morning from the Convention Center. A little later our Main Street merchants and business owners will open up to provide early risers a local shopping experience and the chance to get to know why “Shop Local” is becoming so much easier. Tucumari’s own "The Gallery, Etc" will kick off their inaugural "Arts On Fire" event beginning at 10:00 that morning at the corner of 2nd & Center Streets. Drop by to see and hear some of the best artistic and musical talent in the northeastern region of our great state!
Special emphasis is being placed on increasing both the visibility and number of entries for this year’s Car & Motorcycle Show, and is being planned for a new venue on two closed off blocks of Main Street, between 1st and 3rd Streets. Our Kids Corner area is being expanded to provide additional space, activities, rides and games for the younger attendees to this event, and more spaces will open up for non-food vendors along 2nd Street. All food vendors will be placed in our new “Food Court” area to provide a wide variety of fair food dining choices.
Based upon the incredible growth of our Fired Up Quilt Show during the past two years, the number of entries will be capped this year and the show will open on both Friday and Saturday beginning at 10:00am. Also, a number of quilting classes are presently being finalized and will be held in several rooms at the depot for the convenience of attendees. It’s additionally expected that our Historic Tucumcari Railroad Museum will be open and some of the many new artifacts and exhibits available for all to see on Saturday.
The list of entertainers for Fired Up is being expanded upon and finalized at this time but will include several new and varied acts, as well as some old fan favorites that will appeal to everyone in your family. Music … dance … fire performances will again be on display for your viewing pleasure. And of course, the event ending fireworks show should provide a spectacular finale to the weekend’s activities … but plan on sticking around to dance for another hour or so after the fireworks with one of our bands who’ll be playing until the official 10:00 close.
Because of this increase in the number of entertainers, we’re currently anticipating that this event will open up an hour earlier than in the past and run from 3:00 – 10:00pm on the last Saturday in September, specifically September 30th.
Check back to see all the details as they are finalized!
