Sweet Land of Liberty Cake Decorating Contest

Tucumcari MainStreet is thrilled to partner with the local Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to host the Sweet Land of Liberty Cake Decorating Contest! This fun and festive event celebrates three milestones: America 250, the Route 66 Centennial, and the 100th anniversary of the Tucumcari Depot. Participants of all ages are invited to showcase their creativity and patriotic spirit by designing “cakes” inspired by these historic milestones. Join us in honoring our community and heritage with sweet, artistic creations!

Sweet Land of Liberty Cake Decorating Contest Rules

Participants may enter in one of the following categories:

  • Local Organization

  • Student

  • Adult

 General Rules

  1. Display Cakes Only: All entries must be decorative display cakes. Real edible cakes are not permitted. Entries may be created using foam forms, cardboard, papier-mâché, wood, clay, or other craft materials.  

  2. Theme Requirement: Entries should reflect the “Sweet Land of Liberty” / America 250 theme and celebrate American heritage, patriotism, history, or community pride.  

  3. Creativity Encouraged: Participants are encouraged to use original ideas, artistic techniques, and imaginative designs.

  4. Family-Friendly Content: All entries must be appropriate for public display and suitable for all ages.

  5. Size & Stability: Cakes should be sturdy enough for transport and public display. Participants are encouraged to secure decorations firmly. The displays should not exceed three feet tall or three feet wide.

  6. Historical Bonus Elements:  Incorporating local or historical elements such as Tucumcari history, Route 66, or depot/train heritage may earn bonus points from the judges. Participants are encouraged to creatively celebrate the community’s unique history within their design.

  7. Entry Identification: Each entry should include:

    • Participant or organization name

    • Category

    • Contact information

  8. Drop-Off Deadline:  All entries must be dropped off at the Tucumcari Railroad Depot no later than June 24.

  9. Display Period: Entries will be displayed during the TMS Down at the Depot event On June 26, 2026.

  10. Liability: Organizers will take reasonable care of all entries but are not responsible for damage during transport, setup, display, or pickup.

  11. Right to Photograph: By entering, participants grant permission for photographs of entries to be used for event promotion and social media.
